Behavioural Ecology, Conservation and Wildlife Management

Amandine Ramos

Dr. Amandine RAMOS

I'm interested on collective decision-making processes, habitat use and group communication of social animals. During my Ph.D, I especially worked on herbivorous species to better understand how they organize collectively during their spontaneous movements, especially trying to highlight mecanisms involved in the leadership phenomenon. These studies could allow to developt new herd management strategies and promote a better cohabitation between human and animal populations. Indeed, Human-Wildlife conflicts are often provoke by a lack of general knowledge about the ecological and social needs of species, leading to unsuitable land-sharing as well as ineffective herd management methods. Thus, studying social organisation and group movements is particularly relevant, first for targeting the most favorable habitats for the species, and then for controlling the space use of animals once they were reintroduced.

"Pint of Science" Event (15.05.2018)

Programme

"Les Animaux ont La Parole"

The 19th, 20th and 21st May 2018, I will have the pleasure to animate small conferences at the Parc Animalier de Sainte Croix, for the event "Les Animaux ont La Parole". An additional opportunity to learn a little more about how bison communicate!

Pint of Sciences

This year, I have the pleasure to participate to the event "Pint of Science", the largest science festival in Europe! The concept is simple and friendly: talk about science over a drink! Come and meet me on May 15 at the Ruche Aux Deux Reines bar in Strasbourg; I will show you, in a playful way, that democracy does not exist only in humans and that animals are also able to make common decisions!

Kraansvlak, Bison Land

After 4 months to follow bison in Kraansvlak dunes (Zuid-Kennemerland National Park, The Netherlands), I would like to share with you some sequences illustrating my encounter with this iconic wild species of our european ecosystems. An encounter enrichied with many others, all of them remarkable and surprising: Konik horses, red deers, roe deers, red foxes, owl... Everything to re-establish links with the Wild !
